Thursday, as many of you will know, was World Thinking Day (WTD). The 22nd February was the birthday of both Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, and it’s a day that represents many things to many people. I won’t try to cover them all – for some alternative views, see here, here, and here. My units meet on Wednesdays and Fridays, nicely bracketing the day this year. … Continue reading World Thinking Day 2018
Who doesn’t love unicorns? Our Brownies certainly do. And they love making things and doing arts and crafts. That’s why we now have a selection of these little beauties drying in the cupboard. In other news, Guides playing the Girlguiding edition of Monopoly can spark interesting conversations about Guiding properties, in particular ones we might like to visit… I see a trip to London in … Continue reading Unicorns!
At the end of the summer term, I took my Brownies to Crazy Climb. We had a few spare places so we offered them out to the other unit – and this term they returned the favour. It’s been a little while since I posted, and I’ve done a lot. We had a photo presentation evening to show the Guides and parents what we got up to in Switzerland. Not many parents came, but I think the Guides appreciated it. Our Brownie plan for one week was rained off, so I thought quickly and decided to teach the girls some self defence. … Continue reading A bit of a catch up
On Friday, two of my Guides ran the evening for me. They are working on their Baden-Powell Award, the highest award you can get as a Guide. One of the clauses they have chosen to do is “Organise and run a Patrol cooking competition. You could provide ingredients and challenge the Patrols to produce dishes in a set time.” They split the Guides into three … Continue reading Baden-Powell Cooking Evening
One of my Brownie units finished last week, and we used the time slot for the parents meeting for summer camp. Parents meetings are important, if only to impress on the parents that we do have a reason for writing the kit list, and it’s not just for our own fun! The other Brownie unit and my Guides were all suffering from end-of-term-itis. It’s a … Continue reading End-of-term-itis
